Dan moved to Galena in 1990, relocating from the Printing House Row Historic District in the South Loop where he owned and operated Moonraker Restaurant and worked as a Real Estate Developer for Chicago Architect Harry Weese. Dan was born and raised in the Old Irving Park neighborhood on Chicago's Northwest Side. He attended Fenwick High School in Oak Park and graduated from the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota with a degree in business. Dan has been licensed and worked in real estate for the last 15 years and was the Top Producer in 2004 with a total of 8.5 million in sales.
Dan has lived on the East Side at 903 Third Street for the last 13 years. He was appointed by then Mayor Terry Cole to the original Galena Planning Commission and then served 5 years on the Galena Zoning Board of Appeals after being appointed by former Mayor Gary Bartell. He was elected to the Galena City Council in May of 1999 and was re-elected to a second term in May of 2003.
